Take It With You!

Here we will offer thoughts and meditations on the message to help us as we contemplate and discuss and wrestle with what we are hearing.

Thus we look forward to the time when the battlefield that surrounds us here and now with contesting powers will become empty. Then God will be all in all and nothing more will stand between him and us. Then there will be an end to the meaninglessness in our life so that we no longer have to believe in spite of these [perpetual sins and frustrations] nor say any longer "Nevertheless I am continually with thee"; then we may see him as he is, and all the impenetrable confusion of chance and fate which plagued us in our life lines up in a straight path.

For this reason there is in every believer a pulling and hauling that moves him forward and causes him to anticipate the fulfillment of what is as yet prophecy and down payment but which points beyond the present moment. Someday the hidden Christ, who as yet works covertly and in lowliness, will drop the mask of his anonymity. Someday he will appear as he really is, as the one whom "the circuit of the whole world did not contain," as the kind with sickle and crown. Sometime (in fact in the last time), the judgment of God will become clear too, when this king returns to judge the living and the dead. For what we know of earthly judgments, their ambiguity and inconclusiveness points beyond them to a judgment day which will bring the hidden things to light.
